Sister M. Pancratius Walsh, IHM

Sister M. Pancratius Walsh, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, July 6, 1971, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was born on August 22, 1898, in Scranton, PA, and given the name Margaret. She was the daughter of the late Dominic and Alice Mellon Walsh. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 15, 1914, received the religious habit on July 6, 1915, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1917.

Sister Pancratius served as a teacher in the following schools: St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport, PA; St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA; St. Mary of the Mount Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA; St. Mary Elementary School in Patton, PA; and St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Scranton, PA.

Sister also served as a catechetical instructor at St. Ann’s Catechetical Center in Devon, CT, from 1944 to 1947.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph (toddler), Wolftone, Edward John and Michael; and two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Connors and Anna Jennings.

She is survived by two sisters, Catherine Taylor of Scranton, PA, and Irene Walsh of Sharon Hill, PA; and several nieces and nephews, including former Scranton Mayor James J. Walsh.

The funeral will be on Thursday, July 8, at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Tuesday evening or Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Marian Convent.
