Sister M. Miriam Loftus, IHM

August 3, 1879 – November 22, 1967

Sister M. Miriam Loftus, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, November 22, 1967.

She was born on August 3, 1879 in Moosic, Pennsylvania, and given the name Mabel Madeline. She was the daughter of the late James J. and Bridget Agnes Gibbons Loftus. She entered the IHM Congregation on December 29, 1900, received the religious habit on July 27, 1901, and made profession of her vows on July 2, 1903.

Sister Miriam served as teacher at the following schools: Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA; St. Rose School in Carbondale, PA; St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston, PA; St. Leo School in Ashley, PA; and St. Rosalia School in Pittsburgh, PA.

She is preceded in death by a brother, Leo Leonard.

She is survived by a brother, Reverend James J. Loftus, two sisters, Josephine and Agnes, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Claudia Loftus, nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
