Sister M. Miriam Loftus, IHM

Sister M. Miriam Loftus, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, November 22, 1967, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was born on August 3, 1879 in Moosic, PA, and given the name Mabel Madeline. She was the daughter of the late James J. and Bridget Agnes Gibbons Loftus. She entered the IHM Congregation on December 29, 1900, received the religious habit on July 27, 1901, and made profession of her vows on July 2, 1903.

Sister Miriam served as teacher at the following schools: St. John School in Susquehanna, PA; St. Rose School in Carbondale, PA; St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston, PA; St. Rosalia School in Pittsburgh, PA and St. Leo School in Ashley, PA.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Leo Leonard.

She is survived by a brother, Reverend James J. Loftus of Florida; two sisters, Josephine Loftus and Agnes Loftus, both of Scranton, PA; a sister-in-law, Claudia Loftus of Delaware; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

The funeral will be Friday, November 24 at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA.
