Sister M. Leah Seng, IHM

Sister M. Leah Seng, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died Saturday, October 13, 1984, at the Mercy Hospital in Scranton, PA.

She was born on October 25, 1909, in Wireton, PA, and given the name Catherine. She was the daughter of the late John and Catherine Sullivan Seng. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 2, 1932, received the religious habit on August 2, 1932, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1934.

Sister Leah served as a teacher at the following schools: Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Cecilia Elementary School in Exeter, PA; St. John Elementary School in Susquehanna, PA; All Saints Elementary School in Mastontown, PA; St. Bernard Elementary School in Hastings, PA; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Asbury Park, NJ; and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Altoona, PA. She also taught at elementary schools located in Pittsburgh, PA and Baltimore, MD.

She was preceded in death by her step-mother, Elizabeth Mary Voltz Seng; brother, Emil William; and two sisters, Elizabeth McCollin and Margaret Suttule.

She is survived by a sister, Dorothy Sells of Aliquippa, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Tuesday, October 16, at 9:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent in Scranton. Interment will be at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Monday afternoon or evening.
