Sister M. Laurena Roy, IHM

Sister M. Laurena Roy, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, December 22, 1955, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.

She was born on October 19, 1897, in Pascoag, RI, and given the name Rose Anna. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Marie Elmire (Elmira) Bilodeau Roy. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 13, 1927, received the religious habit on December 29, 1927, and made profession of her vows on December 27, 1929.

Sister Laurena served as a domestic at St. Lawrence Convent in Portland, OR; Marywood College in Scranton, PA; St. Agnes Place in Elmhurst, PA; and St. Mary’s Convent in Avoca, PA.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Kilda Marie Varin and Olivine Roy, and her step-mother, Seraphine (Sarah) Pellerin Roy.

She is survived by two brothers, Arthur Joseph and Alfred J., both of Providence, RI; a sister, Olivine Laboissonniere of Cranston, RI; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Saturday, December 24, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church in Moscow, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at St. Agnes Place in Elmhurst on Friday.

Archival Remembrance:

Sister Laurena’s patience in great suffering edified all, and her selfless prayer that her death would not cause extra labor at Christmas time was the index of her delicate, self-effacing character. She would have marked the anniversary of her 28th year in the community next Thursday. May God reward her and grant her eternal happiness.
