Sister M. Labourè Walters, IHM

December 5, 1910 – July 13, 1982

Sister M. Labour Walters, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Tuesday evening, July 13, 1982, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

Daughter of the late Frank and Alicia Bellinger Walters, she was born on December 5, 1910 in Utica, New York. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1934, received the religious habit on August 2, 1935 and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1937.

Sister Labourè served as a business teacher at the following schools: St. John in Scranton; South Catholic in Scranton; St. Paul in Scranton; Holy Rosary in Scranton; St. John the Evangelist in Pittston; St. Joseph in Renovo; as well as schools located in Pittsburgh; Lock Haven; and LaPlata, MD.

Sister also served in the business office at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale. Her last mission was the in business office at St. Joseph’s Center in Scranton, from 1964 to 1981.

She is survived by a brother, Frank Walters of Coxsackie, New York; and a cousin.

The funeral will be Friday, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in the Marian Convent Chapel. Interment will be at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Thursday afternoon or evening.
