Sister M. Katrina Kondzer, IHM

Sister M. Katrina Kondzer, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, June 23, 2002 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
She was born on September 20, 1911 in Masontown, PA, and given the name Helen Germaine. She was the daughter of the late George and Anna Lukasik Kondzer. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 7, 1932, made temporary profession of her vows on April 30, 1935, and final profession of her vows on August 1, 1938.
Sister Katrina served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Michael’s School for Boys in Hoban Heights, PA, from 1935 to 1937; Sacred Heart of Mary Elementary School in Jermyn, PA, from 1939 to 1940; St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1950 to 1957; St. Matthew Elementary School in East Stroudsburg, PA, from 1954 to 1957; Our Lady of Peace Elementary School in Clarks Green, PA, from 1957 to 1965; St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport, PA, from 1965 to 1970; St. Ann Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1970 to 1974; St. Joseph Elementary School in Renovo, PA; as well as at elementary schools located in Pittsburgh, PA.
From 1978 until the time of her death, Sister Katrina served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.
She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Marywood College.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Thelma Milesky, Anna Chervenak, Elizabeth Schmidt and Mary Novasky, and three brothers, John, George, and Andrew.
She is survived by a sister, Margaret Lease of Huntington Woods, MI, and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday, June 27 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Wednesday after 2:00 p.m.
