Sister M. Josephus Butler, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, January 24, 1924 at Mercy Hospital in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
She was born on November 3, 1888 in Cherryvale, Kansas, and given the name Helen Grace. She was the daughter of Joseph H. and Catherine Joyce Butler. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1912, received the religious habit on August 2, 1913, and made profession of her vows on July 6, 1915.
Sister Josephus served as a music teacher at St. Mary Elementary School in Hollidaysburg, PA; St. Rose Elementary School in Carbondale, PA; and St. Ann Elementary School in Scranton, PA.
She is survived by two sisters, Mary Edith Murphy and Margaret Butler, both of Cherryvale, Kansas, and cousins.
The funeral will be Saturday, January 26 at 10:00 am in the Marywood College Chapel, Scranton, PA. Interment will be at the Marywood College Cemetery, on the grounds of Marywood College.
