Sister M. Jane deChantal Giblin, IHM

December 14, 1885 – November 16, 1943

Sister M. Jane deChantal Giblin, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, November 16, 1943, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.

She was born on December 14, 1885 in Scranton, PA, and given the name Mary Alice. She was the daugther of the late John William and Catherine L. Guiton Giblin. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1908, received the religious habit on August 2, 1912, and made profession of her vows on August 3, 1914.

Sister Jane deChantal served as a teacher at Marywood Seminary in Scranton, PA.

Sister served as principal at St. Paul School in Scranton, PA, and St. Mary of the Mount School in Pittsburgh, PA.

At Marywood College, she served as the head of the department of education, for fifteen years, and in 1940, she returned as a faculty member.

She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Thomas Joseph.

She is survived by two sisters, Jane Gurrell and Catherine Roselyn “Rose” Evans, a brother, John William, Jr., and cousins. She is also survived by an aunt, Sister Mary Fides Gibson, IHM, and cousin, Sister Mary Hope Gibson, IHM.

The funeral will be November 18 at 9:30 a.m. in the Marywood College Chapel, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA.
