Sister M. James McHale, IHM

September 22, 1871 – January 28, 1922

Sister M. James McHale, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, January 28, 1922, at St. Rose’s Convent in Carbondale, PA.

She was born on September 22, 1871 in Scranton, PA, and given the name Agnes. She was the daughter of the late James and Bridget Judge McHale. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 28, 1891, received the religious habit on May 24, 1892, and made profession of her vows on May 24, 1894.

Sister James served as a teacher at the following schools: St. John the Evangelist High School in Pittston, PA; St. Cecelia School in Exeter, PA; and St. Rose High School in Carbondale, PA.

She earned many degrees, including a Doctor of Letters degree from Duquesne University.

She is survived by a nephew, James McHale of Newark, NJ.

The funeral will be Tuesday, January 31, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose’s Church, Carbondale, with interment to follow at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Carbondale, PA.
