Sister M. Irma McNally, IHM

Sister M. Irma McNally, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, March 25, 1971, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
She was born on April 4, 1883 in White Haven, PA, and given the name Catherine. She was the daughter of the late John and Anne Michel McNally. She entered the IHM Congregation on March 2, 1904, received the religious habit on August 2, 1904, and made profession of her vows on July 26, 1906.
Sister Irma was an accomplished musician. She served as a music teacher in the following schools: Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA, from 1906 to 1908; St. Andrew Parish School in Portland, OR, from 1908 to 1914; St. Cecilia Academy in Scranton,PA, from 1914 to 1915; St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA, from 1915 to 1918; All Saints Elementary School in Masontown, PA, from 1918 to 1919; St. Rose Elementary School in Carbondale, PA, from 1919 to 1923; St. Ann Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1923 to 1932; St. John Elementary School in Susquehanna, PA, from 1932 to 1936; St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1932 to 1936; Most Holy Rosary Elementary School in Syracuse, NY, 1937 to 1942; St. Patrick Elementary School in Oneida, NY, from 1942 to 1948; St. Patrick Elementary School in White Haven, PA, from 1948 to 1954; and at St. Mary Elementary School in Hollidaysburg, PA, from 1954 to 1958.
Sister also served as superior at St. John’s Convent in Susquehanna, PA, St. Patrick’s Convent in White Haven, PA, and St. Mary’s Convent in Hollidaysburg, PA.
From 1959 until the time of her death, Sister Irma engaged in the ministry of prayer at the Marian Convent.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, John Jr. (infant), Edward and Harry; and an infant sister, Elizabeth.
She is survived by cousins, Edward, William and Nan McNally, all of White Haven, PA; Mrs. George Gersen of Bronxville, NY; and James McNally of Germantown, NY.
The funeral will be Saturday, March 27, at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Thursday night, and Friday afternoon or evening.
