Sister M. Hostia Langan, IHM

September 13, 1883 – November 19, 1925

Sister M. Hostia Langan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, November 19, 1925, at St. Rose’s Convent in Carbondale, PA.

She was born on September 13, 1883 in Scranton, PA, and was given the name Mary Teresa. She was the daughter of Anne Kelly Langan and the late John Langan. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1913, received the religious habit on December 30, 1913, and made profession of her vows on December 30, 1915.

Sister Hostia served as a teacher at the following schools: Holy Rosary School in Scranton, PA; St. Joseph School in Renovo, PA; St. Patrick School in White Haven, PA; and St. Rose School in Carbondale, PA.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Loretta (infant), Anna Irene Langan, and Ellen Langan.

In addition to her mother, she is also survived by a sister, Helen Marie Langan of Scranton, PA; seven brothers, Reverend Peter of Philadelphia, PA, James of Cleveland, OH, Thomas J. of Buffalo, NY, and James, John, Michael and Manus, all of Scranton, PA; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be on Saturday, November 21, at 10:00 a.m. with a solemn high mass to be celebrated by her brother, the Reverend Peter Langan, at St. Rose’s Church in Carbondale. Interment will follow at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, in Carbondale.
