Sister M. Henry Kelly, IHM

Sister M. Henry Kelly, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Friday, December 19, 1930, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.
She was born on April 27, 1870 in Whites Valley, PA, and given the name Mary. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Maria Gorman Kelly. She entered the IHM Congregation on December 7, 1893, received the religious habit on May 24, 1894, and made profession of her vows on July 2, 1896.
Sister Henry served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Patrick School in Scranton, PA; St. Cecilia Academy in Scranton, PA; St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston, PA; and St. Joseph School in Williamsport, PA.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Patrick William and Thomas J., and a sister, Frances Haggerty.
She is survived by two brothers, Edward of Mount Pleasant Township, PA, and Michael J. Jr., of Pleasant Mount, PA; two sisters, Isabella Connolly of Forest City, PA, and Elizabeth “Eliza” LeStrange of Syracuse, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday, December 22, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose’s Church in Carbondale, followed by interment at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery in Greenfield Township, PA.

Sister M. Henry has been a faithful and exemplary religious and teacher for forty years. She spent many years of her religious life in Scranton, at St. Patrick’s, West Scranton, and at St. Cecilia’s Academy. She was stationed at St. Joseph’s, White Haven, before her removal to the hospital at Carbondale. Sister Henry passed away following an operation at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Carbondale, on December 16, 1930. May God reward her and grant her eternal happiness.
