Sister M. Gregory Murphy, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, February 8, 1968 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania.
She was born on September 19, 1882 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and given the name Mary Josephine. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Bridget Anglin Murphy. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 15, 1905, received the religious habit on July 16, 1907, and made profession of her vows on April 13, 1909.
Sister Gregory served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Cecilia Academy in Scranton, PA, from 1909 to 1912, and Holy Rosary School in Scranton, PA, from 1912 to 1926.
From 1926 until the time of her death, Sister Gregory served as an art teacher at Marywood College in Scranton, PA.
She is preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and James.
Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
