Sister M. Gregory Murphy, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, February 8, 1968, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.

She was born on September 19, 1882 in Scranton, PA, and given the name Mary Josephine. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Bridget Anglin Murphy. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 15, 1905, received the religious habit on July 16, 1907, and made profession of her vows on April 13, 1909.

Sister Gregory served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Cecilia Academy in Scranton, PA, from 1909 to 1912, and Holy Rosary School in Scranton, PA, from 1912 to 1926.

Sister was a member of the fine arts faculty at Marywood College in Scranton, PA, from 1926 to 1963.

From 1963 until the time of her death, Sister Gregory was a prayer minister at the IHM Motherhouse on the grounds of Marywood College in Scranton.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Edward W. Jr., James, John and Michael.

She is survived by a sister, Nora Weinschenk of Scranton, PA, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Monday, February 12, at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent in Scranton. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Sunday after 2:00 p.m.
