Sister M. Florence Marshall, IHM

March 8, 1868 – June 22, 1933

Sister M. Florence Marshall, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, June 22, 1933, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.

She was born on March 8, 1868 in Carbondale, PA, and given the name Mary. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Jane Murphy Marshall. She entered the IHM Congregation on July 31, 1890, received the religious habit on August 2, 1891, and made profession of her vows on April 3, 1893.

Sister Florence served as a teacher at the following schools: St. John the Evangelist School in Scranton, PA, and Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA.

Sister served as principal at St. Joseph School in Renovo, PA, and Immaculate Conception School in West Pittston, PA.

Sister Florence also served in child-care for resident children and as a teacher at St. Patrick’s Orphanage in Scranton, PA.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, William, James and Frank.

She is survived by four sisters, Sister M. Maurice, IHM, at Most Holy Rosary Convent in Syracuse, NY, Ida Duggan of Virginia, and Clara Marshall and Anna Gerrity, both of Carbondale, PA; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Monday, June 26, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose Church in Carbondale, followed by interment at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery in Greenfield Township, PA.
