Sister M. Fabian Gallagher, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Friday, November 19, 1948, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.
She was born on April 6, 1883 in Archbald, PA, and given the name Nellie. She was the daughter of the late Peter J. and Ellen Tighe Gallagher. She entered the IHM Congregation on July 2, 1903, received the religious habit on December 31, 1903, and made profession of her vows on December 28, 1905.
Sister Fabian served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Patrick School in Scranton, PA; St. Alphonsus School in New York City, NY; St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston, PA; St. Rosalia School in Pittsburgh, PA; and St. Ann School in Scranton, PA.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Gallagher and Mary Gilroy, and a brother, Peter A.
She is survived by three sisters, Anna Pierce and Elizabeth Gallagher, both of Dunmore, PA, and Rose M. Kelly of Washington, DC; three brothers, Lawrence of Washinton, James B. of Chicago, Ill., and Joseph J. of Dunmore, PA; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday, November 22 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Ann’s Church in Scranton, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Sunday after 2 p.m. at St. Ann’s Convent in Scranton.
