Sister M. Cephas McHugh, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, December 12, 1948 at St. Agnes Convent in Elmhurst, Pennsylvania.
She was born on February 10, 1871 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and given the name Mary E. She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Bridget Joyce McHugh. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 15, 1905, received the religious habit on December 28, 1905, and made profession of her vows on July 16, 1908.
Sister Cephas enjoyed her years of teaching children in our IHM mission schools, including at St. Patrick School in Scranton, PA. She also served in child care for resident children at the St. Joseph’s Foundling Home in Scranton, PA.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Reverend Peter, Thomas and Reverend Bonaventure, C.P., and a sister, Beatrice.
She is survived by a brother, Edward of Scranton, PA, nieces and nephews.
Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
