Sister M. Eugene Murray, IHM

Sister M. Eugene Murray, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, May 7, 1938, at Marywood College in Scranton, PA.

She was born on March 17, 1865 in Scranton, PA, and given the name Ellen. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary Nallin Murray. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 27, 1889, received the religious habit on July 20, 1890, and made profession of her vows on November 22, 1892.

Sister Eugene served as a teacher at St. Rose Academy in Carbondale, PA, and Marywood Seminary in Scranton, PA.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael and Thomas; and four sisters, Bridget McDonough, and Maria, Catharine and Alice Murray.

She is survived by a sister, Sarah Murray of Scranton, PA; and several nieces and nephews, including Sister M. Agatha McDonough, IHM.

The funeral will be Wednesday, May 11, at 9:30 a.m. in the chapel at Marywood College, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA.
