Sister M. Enda McGuire, IHM

December 13, 1889 – July 23, 1952

Sister M. Enda McGuire, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, July 23, 1952, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.

She was born on December 12, 1889 in Exeter, PA, and given the name Mary. She was the daughter of the late Hugh and Elizabeth Mackin McGuire. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 22, 1916, received the religious habit on August 2, 1917, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1919.

Sister Enda served as principal and superior at the following schools: St. John Elementary School in Susquehanna, PA; St. Ann School in Scranton, PA; and most recently at St. Leo High School in Ashley, PA.

Sister served as teacher at the following schools: St. Joseph High School in Williamsport, PA; St. Mary of the Mount High School in Pittsburgh, PA; and St. John the Evangelist High School in Pittston, PA.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Owen, and a sister, Elizabeth Lee.

She is survived by three brothers, Reverend Cyril McGuire, C.P. of Baltimore, MD, John of Kingston, PA, and Hugh Jr. of Pittston, PA; two sisters, Angela Langan of Jersey City, NJ, and Agnes McHugh of Philadelphia, PA; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Friday, July 25, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Leo’s Church in Ashley, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Thursday at St. Leo’s Convent in Ashley, PA.
