Sister M. Elvira Manze, IHM

Sister M. Elvira Manze, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Friday, May 10, 1985, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
She was born on January 15, 1910 in Scranton, PA, and given the name Angeline. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Elvira Siconolfi Manze, and the step-daughter of the late Bianca Fiore de Lisi Manze. She entered the IHM Congregation on March 24, 1927, received the religious habit on August 15, 1927, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1929.
Sister Elvira served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Cecilia Elementary School in Wyoming, PA; St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Scranton, PA; Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton, PA; and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Altoona, PA. She also taught at elementary schools located in New York City, NY; Baltimore, MD; and Williamsport and Lock Haven, PA.
Sister’s most recent assignment was as a teacher’s assistant at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Dunmore, PA.
She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Helen, and a brother, Michael.
She is survived by three sisters, Florence Rossi of Scranton, PA, Esther Haness of Plainfield, NJ, and Elvira Matusiak of Chicago, IL; two brothers, Vincent and Gerard, both of Scranton, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday, May 13, at 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Sunday afternoon or evening at the Marian Convent.
