Sister M. Egidius Heslin, IHM

May 31, 1866 – May 23, 1942

Sister M. Egidius Heslin, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, May 23, 1942, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.

She was born on May 31, 1866 in Pittston, PA, and given the name Margaret. She was the daughter of the late Peter and Ellen Moran Heslin. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 12, 1889, received the religious habit on April 8, 1890, and made profession of her vows on May 24, 1892.

Sister Egidius served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Rose High School in Carbondale, PA; St. Patrick High School in Scranton, PA; St. Mary of the Mount High School in Pittsburgh, PA; St. John High School in Susquehanna, PA; St. Joseph High School in Renovo, PA; and St. Leo High School in Ashley, PA.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Bernard, James and Patrick; and seven sisters, Bridget McCue, Ellen Gannon, Sister Mary Gretecious, RSCJ, Cecelia Heslin, Elizabeth King, Susan Ann Heslin and Sister M. Carmelita, IHM.

She is survived by nieces and nephews, including Reverend Gerald King, of Garden City, NY.

The funeral will be Monday, May 25, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose’s Church in Carbondale. Interment will follow at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery in Greenfield Township, PA.
