Sister M. Edith Ralston, IHM

January 1, 1901 – December 6, 1936

Sister M. Edith Ralston, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, December 6, 1936, at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.

She was born on January 1, 1901 in Masontown, PA, and given the name Mary Catherine. She was the daughter of Mary Elizabeth Evans Ralston and the late Patrick H. Ralston. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1922, received the religious habit on December 28, 1922, and made profession of her vows on December 29, 1924. She graduated from Juillard School of Music in New York.

Sister Edith served as a music teacher at St. Thomas School in Providence, RI; St. Rose School in Carbondale, PA; St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston, PA; St. Mary School in Goldsboro, NC; and St. Thomas Aquinas School in Archbald, PA.

From 1931 until the time of her death, Sister Edith served on the music faculty of Marywood College in Scranton, PA.

In addition to her mother, she is also survived by three sisters, Angeline and Eleanor (Nellie) Ralston, all of Masontown, PA; and Margaret McGee, of Uniontown, PA; seven brothers, Dr. Hugh of Uniontown, PA; Edward of Washington, DC; Thomas Lawrence, John Joseph, Francis Robert, Patrick Henry, and Dr. James C., all of Masontown, PA; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Wednesday, Decemebr 9, at 9:30 a.m. in the Marywood College Chapel. Interment will be at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Tuesday at Marywood College.
