Sister M. dePaul Dougherty, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, February 6, 1983, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.

She was born on August 13, 1908 in Scranton, PA, and given the name Helen. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Helen Gerrity Dougherty. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 14, 1928, received the religious habit on April 1, 1929, and made profession of vows on April 14, 1931.

Sister dePaul served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Ann Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton, PA; and St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Binghamton, NY.

Sister dePaul served as the Director of Nursing and as a nurse anesthetist at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA. She also served as the Director of Nursing and a pharmacy assistant at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

Sister received her registered nursing degree from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Carbondale, PA.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles, and a sister, Sister Marie Helen, IHM.

She is survived by two brothers, Joseph of Scranton, PA, and Edward, Jr. of Maspeth, NY; a sister, Alice Fitzgerald of Maspeth, NY; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be on Tuesday, February 8 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Monday afternoon or evening.
