Sister M. Cormac Bohan, IHM

January 6, 1891 – November 2, 1980

Sister M. Cormac Bohan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Sunday, November 2, 1980, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was born on January 6, 1891, in Pittston, PA, and given the name Mary. She was the daughter of the late Cormac R. and Mary Kearney Bohan. She entered the IHM Congregation on January 6, 1913, received the religious habit on August 2, 1913, and made profession of her vows on July 6, 1915.

Sister Cormac served as a teacher at the following schools: Most Holy Rosary High School in Syracuse, NY; Altoona Catholic High School in Altoona, PA; St. Dominic High School in Oyster Bay, NY; and St. Leo High School in Ashley, PA. She also served as a teacher at high schools located in Scranton, PA, and New York City, NY.

At Marywood College in Scranton, PA, Sister served on the faculty in the mathematics department from 1947 to 1968.

From 1968 until the time of her death, Sister Cormac was a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Maurice and Thomas; and two sisters Sister M. Virgilius Bohan, IHM, and Regina Burke.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Tuesday, November 4, at 9:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, with interment to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Monday afternoon and evening.
