Sister M. Cormac Bohan, IHM

January 6, 1891 – November 2, 1980

Sister M. Cormac Bohan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Sunday, November 2, 1980 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA, after an extended illness.

She was born on January 6, 1891 in Pittston, PA, and given the name Mary. She was the daughter of the late Cormac R. and Mary Kearney Bohan. She entered the IHM Congregation on January 6, 1913, received the religious habit on August 2, 1913, and made profession of her vows on July 6, 1915.

Sister Cormac served as a teacher at the following schools: Most Holy Rosary High School in Syracuse, NY; Altoona Catholic High School in Altoona, PA; St. Dominic High School in Oyster Bay, NY; and St. Leo High School in Ashley, PA. She also served as a teacher at high schools located in Scranton, PA, and New York City, NY.

Sister Cormac also served on the faculty in the mathematics department at Marywood College in Scranton, PA, from 1947 to 1968.

From 1968 until the time of her death, Sister Cormac served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Maurice and Thomas, and two sisters Sister M. Virgilius, IHM, and Regina Burke.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Tuesday, November 4 with Mass of Christian Burial in the Marian Convent Chapel at 9:30 a.m., with interment to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Monday afternoon and evening.
