Sister M. Constance Roche, IHM

October 22, 1871 – March 22, 1948

Sister M. Constance Roche, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, March 22, 1948, at Pittston Hospital in Pittston, PA.

She was born on October 22, 1871 in Scranton, PA, and given the name Agnes. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Margaret Wren Roche. She entered the IHM Congregation on July 1, 1893, received the religious habit on December 28, 1893, and made profession of her vows on April 9, 1896.

Sister Constance served as a teacher at the following schools: Most Holy Rosary School in Syracuse, NY; St. Patrick School in Oneida, NY; St. Ann School in Scranton, PA; and St. Patrick School in Olyphant, PA. While at Most Holy Rosary Convent in Syracuse, NY, she served as superior.

At the time of her death, Sister Constance was a teacher at St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston, PA.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Patrick and Charles.

She is survived by a sister, Margaret L. Gilloegly of Scranton, PA; a brother, John Francis of Cleveland, OH; and three nieces, Sister M. Isidora Roche, IHM, of Hollidaysburg, PA; Sister M. Lois Roche, IHM, and Mrs. Ralph Haarmyer, both of Scranton, PA.

The funeral will be Wednesday, March 24, at 10:15 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church in Pittston. Interment will be at St. John the Evangelist Cemetery, Pittston, PA. Friends may call all day on Tuesday and Wednesday until funeral time at St. John’s Convent, Pittston.
