Sister M. Chrystostom Bahen, IHM

October 11, 1852 – December 13, 1937

Sister M. Chrystostom Bahen, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, December 13, 1937 at St. Agnes Place in Elmhurst, PA.

she was born on October 11, 1852 in Saint Joseph, PA, and given the name Jane. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Bridget Fallihee Bahen, and step-daughter of the late Bridget Golden Bahen. She entered the IHM Congregation on November 1, 1877, received the religious habit on May 8, 1878, and made profession of her vows on June 2, 1880.

Sister Chrystostom served as a teacher at Holy Rosary School in Scranton, PA; St. Joseph School in Renovo, PA; and Immaculate Conception School in West Pittston, PA.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Michael, two sisters, Mary Donnelly and Katherine Keenan, and a half-brother, Dennis.

She is survived by a brother, Patrick of Virginia and two sisters, Lucy and Teresa, both of Binghamton, NY. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, including Mary Donnelly of Plymouth, PA, and Sister M. Anina Sullivan, IHM of St. John’s Convent, Bellefonte, PA, Sister M. Dominic Sullivan, IHM, and Reverend John J. Colligan of Fordham University, NY; grandnieces and grandnephews.

The funeral will be on Thursday, December 16 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church, Moscow, PA, with interment to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday after 2 p.m. at St. Agnes Place, Elmhurst.
