Sister M. Blandina Gallagher, IHM

July 10, 1864 – March 23, 1942

Sister M. Blandina Gallagher, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, March 23, 1942, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.

She was born on July 10, 1864 in Dunmore, PA, and given the name Frances. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Frances O’Malley Gallagher. She entered the IHM Congregation on October 2, 1888, received the religious habit on December 27, 1888, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1891.

Sister Blandina served as at teacher at St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Pittston, PA; and St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, James F., Richard, Peter J., and William, and four sisters, Susan Dougher, Anna O’Malley, Sarah Cavin, and Elizabeth Gallagher.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Sister M. Fabian, IHM, of St. John’s Convent in Pittston, PA.

The funeral will be Thursday, March 26 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church in Moscow, PA, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow. Friends may call on Wednesday at St. Agnes Place in Elmhurst, PA.
