Sister M. Bernadette McShane, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, April 15, 1929, at St. John’s Convent in Scranton, PA.
She was born on June 3, 1885 in Boston, MA, and given the name Genevieve. She was the daughter of the late Hugh and Margaret Rooney McShane. When she was a child the family moved to Scranton, PA.She entered the IHM Congregation on July 2, 1903, received the religious habit on December 31, 1903, and made profession of her vows on December 28, 1905.
Sister Bernadette served as a teacher at several schools within the Diocese of Scranton, including at St. John the Evangelist School in Scranton, PA, from 1915 until the time of her death.
She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. F.W. Miller of Scranton, PA, Mrs. P.R. Smith of Carbondale, PA, and Mrs. Frank Hurstack of Boston, MA, nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday, April 18, at 9:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, Scranton, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA.
