Sister M. Anne Francis O’Connor, IHM, of the Congregation of Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Sunday, September 9, 1990 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was born on April 18, 1904 in Binghamton, NY, and given the name Grace A. She was the daughter of the late Francis J. and Anna Cummiskey O’Connor. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1926, received the religious habit on December 29, 1926, and made profession of her vows on January 2, 1929.

Sister Anne Francis served as a teacher at St. Joseph School in Williamsport, PA.

Sister served as a professor of classical languages at Marywood College in Scranton, PA, for fifty years. In the early 1980s, she retired from teaching to become the postmistress of the Marywood College Post Office.

She also taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine classes at St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Scranton, PA, for forty years. The statue of St. Joseph in St. Vincent’s Church was given to her by the children of the parish as a memorial to her.

From 1984 until the time of her death, Sister Anne Francis was a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Latin from Marywood College, and a Master of Arts degree in Latin/Greek from Catholic University.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John M., and two sisters, Gertrude O’Connor and Sister M. Matthew O’Connor, IHM.

She is survived by a sister, Mary O’Connor of Binghamton, NY.

The funeral will be Thursday, September 13, at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Wednesday afternoon or evening at the Marian Convent.
