Sister M. Angelica Needham, IHM

September 5, 1871 – September 10, 1944

Sister M. Angelica Needham, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, September 10, 1944, at St. Agnes Place in Elmhurst, PA.

She was born on September 5, 1871 in Scranton, PA, and given the name Mary. She was the daughter of the late James and Ann Grady Needham. She entered the IHM Congregation on June 20, 1895, received the religious habit on April 9, 1896, and made profession of her vows on July 23, 1898.

Sister Angelica served as a teacher at the following schools: Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA; St. Mary of the Mount School in Pittsburgh, PA; All Saints School in Masontown, PA; Holy Rosary School in Scranton, PA; St. Ann School in Scranton, PA; and St. John the Evangelist School in Scranton, PA.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine and Nora Needham, and a brother James, Jr.

She is survived by four brothers, Reverend Thomas A., pastor of St. James’ Church in Jessup, PA, John, Leo Augustine, and Daniel Joseph; two sisters, Sarah and Estella (Stella) Walker; nieces and nephews, all of Scranton, PA.

The funeral will be Tuesday, September 12, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church in Moscow, PA. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.
