Sister M. Ambrose Walker, IHM

Sister M. Ambrose Walker, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, October 31, 2000 at the Marian Convent in Scranton in Pennsylvania.
Daughter of Joseph and Catherine Casey Walker, she was born on June 9, 1908 in Carbondale, Pennsylvania; and given the name Pauline Ambrose. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 15, 1927, made her temporary profession of vows on December 27, 1929 and her final profession of vows on August 1, 1933.
Sister Ambrose served as teacher and principal at the following schools: St. John Elementary School in Susquehanna, PA, 1930 to 1933; Nativity of Our Lord Elementary School in Scranton, PA,1935 to 1948; St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Archbald, PA, 1955 to 1960; Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton, PA, 1968 to 1969; St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton, PA, 1975 to 1991; St. Bernard Parochial School in Hastings, PA; St. Joseph Elementary School in Danville, PA; St. Ephrem School in Brooklyn, NY; St. Patrick Elementary School in Oneida, NY; as well as at schools located in Baltimore, MD; and Pittsburgh, PA.
From 1994 to the time of her death, she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.
She received a Bachelor of Science degree in English from Marywood College.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph P. and Vincent T., and two sisters, Sister M. Simeon, IHM, and Aniceta Walker.
She is survived by six nieces, Cathy Kelly of Honesdale; Polly Chase of Hawley; Betty Gallik of Honesdale; Anne Nonnenmacher of Waymart; Jeanne Greiner of Pomona, CA; and Mary Davies of North Ridge, CA; and three nephews, Joseph Walker of San Marcos, CA; Gerald Walker of Swathmore; and Paul Walker of Ridley Park.
The funeral will be Friday, November 3 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Thursday between 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
