Sister M. Alberta McHale, IHM

January 16, 1876 – April 17, 1939

Sister M. Alberta McHale, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, April 17, 1939, at St. Patrick’s Convent in Spangler, PA.

She was born on January 16, 1876 in Parsons, PA, and given the name Mary. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Manley McHale. By 1880 (after the death of her father), the family moved to Palmyra Township, PA, to live with her maternal grandparents. She entered the IHM Congregation on June 26, 1893, received the religious habit on December 28, 1893, and made profession of her vows on April 9, 1876.

Sister Alberta was a teacher at St. Patrick School in Scranton, PA, and St. Joseph School in Williamsport, PA.

Sister served as principal at St. Paul School in Edgewood, RI, and St. Patrick School in Spangler.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John.

She is survived by an aunt, Mrs. Bernard Conlin of Pittston, PA; three nephews, Reverend Albert McHale at St. Joseph’s of the Palisades Church in West New York, NJ, Robert and Howard McHale; sister-in-law, Mrs. John McHale; niece, Mrs. Howard Bogart of South Orange, NJ; and several cousins.

The funeral will be Friday, April 21, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church in Moscow, PA, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call on Thursday at St. Agnes Place in Elmhurst, PA.
