Sister Elizabeth Collins, IHM

Sister Elizabeth Collins, IHM, (formerly known as Sister M. Edwarda) of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, July 18, 1974 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
She was born on April 4, 1907, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Sarah Ruddy Collins. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1939, received the religious habit on May 7, 1940, and made profession of her vows on May 8, 1942. She earned a teaching degree from Trinity College in Washington, DC, in 1929.
Before entering the IHM community, she taught at North Scranton Junior High School in Scranton, PA, from 1929 to 1934; and at Scranton Technical High School in Scranton, PA, from 1934 to 1939.
Sister Elizabeth served as a teacher in the following schools: Marywood Seminary in Scranton, PA, from 1939 to 1943; Holy Rosary High School in Scranton, PA, from 1943 to 1952; St. Ann High School in Scranton, PA, from 1952 to 1963; St. Patrick High School in Scranton, PA, from 1963 to 1968; West Scranton Central Catholic High School in Scranton, PA, from 1968 to 1969; and Notre Dame High School in East Stroudsburg, PA, from 1969 to 1970.
Sister Elizabeth served as a guidance counselor at the following schools: West Scranton Central Catholic High School in Scranton, PA, from 1968 to 1969; and Notre Dame High School in East Stroudsburg, PA, from 1969 to 1974.
From 1955 to 1967, Sister served as an instructor of educational psychology, individual counseling techniques, and philosophy and principles of guidance at Marywood College in Scranton, PA, during summer sessions.
From 1974 until the time of her death, Sister Elizabeth served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.
Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
