Sister Elizabeth Collins, IHM
April 4, 1907 – July 18, 1974

Sister Elizabeth Collins, IHM, (formerly known as Sister M. Edwarda) of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, July 18, 1974, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
Born on April 4, 1907, in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Sarah Ruddy Collins. Before entering the IHM community, Elizabeth earned a teaching degree from Trinity College in Washington, DC, in 1929; and taught at North Scranton Junior High School in Scranton, PA, from 1929 to 1934; and Scranton Technical High School in Scranton, PA, from 1934 to 1939. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1939, received the religious habit on May 7, 1940, and made profession of her vows on May 8, 1942.
Sister Elizabeth served as a teacher in the following schools: Marywood Seminary in Scranton, PA, from 1939 to 1943; Holy Rosary High School in Scranton, PA, from 1943 to 1952; St. Ann High School in Scranton, PA, from 1952 to 1963; St. Patrick High School in Scranton, PA, from 1963 to 1968; West Scranton Central Catholic High School in Scranton, PA, from 1968 to 1969; and Notre Dame High School in East Stroudsburg, PA, from 1969 to 1970.
At Marywood College in Scranton, PA, Sister served as an instructor of educational psychology, individual counseling techniques, and philosophy and principles of guidance during summer sessions, from 1955 to 1967.
Sister Elizabeth served as a guidance counselor at the following schools: West Scranton Central Catholic High School in Scranton, PA, from 1968 to 1969; and Notre Dame High School in East Stroudsburg, PA, from 1969 to 1974.
From 1974 until the time of her death, Sister Elizabeth served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen.
She is survived by a sister, Louise of Scranton, PA, and a brother, Reverend Edward L., pastor of St. Dennis Church in Glen Lyon, PA.
The funeral will be Saturday, July 20 at 9:30 a.m. in the Marian Convent Chapel, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the Marian Convent.
