Sister Alma Marie Morgan, IHM
December 22, 1904 – April 4, 1988

Sister Alma Marie Morgan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died on Monday, April 4, 1988, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
She was born on December 22, 1904 in Carbondale, PA, and given the name Grace. She was the daughter of the late Clinton (C. A.) Albert and Sara B. Grady Morgan. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 15, 1922, received the religious habit on December 28, 1922, and made profession of her vows on December 29, 1924.
Sister Alma Marie served as principal and superior at the following schools: St. Mary of Mount Carmel Elementary School in Dunmore, PA; Cathedral Elementary School in Scranton, PA; Our Lady of Peace Elementary School in Clark’s Green, PA; Sacred Hearts High School in New York City, NY; Immaculata High School in Manhattan, NY; and St. Raymond School in Lynbrook, NY.
Sister served as superior and catechetical instructor at Holy Name of Mary Catechetical Center in Montrose, PA.
Sister Alma Marie served as a teacher at Pocono Central Catholic School in Cresco, PA; St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA; and St. Paul School in Edgewood, RI. She also taught at schools located in Baltimore, MD, and Scranton, PA.
At the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA, Sister Alma Marie served as assistant to the local superior and secretary to the administrator, from 1980 to 1986; and prayer minister from 1986 until the time of her death.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Marywood College, and a Master of Arts degree in psychology/education from Villanova University.
She was preceded in death by her step-mother, Norma Edmunds Morgan; two sisters, Charlotte Larkin and Elizabeth Marie Larkin; and a brother, Henry Morgan.
She is survived by a step-sister, Joan Moffitt of Somerville, NJ, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be on Thursday, April 7, at 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Wednesday afternoon or evening.
