Sister Alma Marie Morgan, IHM

December 22, 1904 – April 4, 1988

Sister Alma Marie Morgan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Scranton, Pennsylvania, died on Monday, April 4, 1988 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on December 22, 1904 in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, and given the name Grace. She was the daughter of the late late Clinton (C. A.) and Sarah Grady Morgan, and step-daughter of the late Norma Edmunds Morgan. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 15, 1922, received the religious habit on December 28, 1922, and made profession of her vows on December 29, 1924.

Sister Alma Marie served as principal at the following schools: Sacred Hearts High School in New York City, NY; Immaculata High School in Manhattan, NY; and Our Lady of Peace Elementary School in Clark’s Green, PA; as well as at schools located in Lynbrook, NY, and Scranton, PA. She also served as the superior while at Immaculata High School in Manhattan, NY.

Sister Alma Marie also served as a catechetical instructor, director of religious education, and teacher of intermediate and junior high grades.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Marywood College, and a Master of Arts degree in psychology/education from Villanova University.

She is preceded in death by two sisters, Charlotte Larkin and Elizabeth Marie Larkin, and a brother, Henry.

She is survived by a step-sister, Joan Moffitt of Somerville, NJ, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be on Thursday, April 7 at 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call on Wednesday afternoon after 2:00 p.m. at the Marian Convent.
