Wendelin Casey, IHM

Sister M. Wendelin Casey, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died Sunday, July 20, 1986 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA, after an illness.

Born on February 22, 1906 in the Minooka section of Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Delia Connolly Casey. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 14, 1928, received the religious habit on April 1, 1929, and made profession of her vows on April 14, 1931.

Sister Wendelin served as a teacher at St. Paul School in Cranston, Rhode Island.

After teaching for a few years, Sister Wendelin began a career in nursing which took her to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA, where she was supervisor of the maternity department and nursing instructor. She later served as a nurse at the Catholic Child Care Center in Hollidaysburg, PA.

From 1979 until the time of her death, Sister Wendelin served on the support staff of the Marian Convent.

She is preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Casey and Mrs. Al Domboski, and a brother, Edmund.

She is survived by a sister, Clare Rose Whalen of Scranton, PA, nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Wednesday with Mass of Christian Burial in the Marian Convent chapel at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Tuesday afternoon or evening.
