Sister M. Paschal Fitzgibbon, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, July 12, 1999, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was born on February 7, 1912 in Taylor, PA, and given the name Agnes. She was the daughter of the late Michael Joseph and Mary Agnes Morahan Fitzgibbon. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1931, made temporary profession of her vows on April 24, 1934, and final profession of her vows on August 2, 1937.

Sister Paschal served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Rose Elementary School in Carbondale, PA, from 1935 to 1944; Cathedral Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1960 to 1962; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Bellefonte, PA; St. Mary Elementary School in Hollidaysburg in PA; St. Peter of Alcantara Elementary School in Port Washington, NY; St. Ambrose Elementary School in Bridgeport, CT; and Our Lady of Grace Elementary School in Greensboro, NC. She also taught at schools located in New York, NY and Washington, NC.

Sister Paschal served as a catechetical instructor at St. Agnes Catechetical Center in Forest City, PA, from 1952 to 1960; and St. Ignatius Catechetical Center in Kingston, PA, from 1964 to 1965. She served as a parish minister in Brooklyn, NY.

Sister also served as a nurse’s aide at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA, from 1974 to 1977.

From 1992 until the time of her death, Sister Paschal served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, and a Master of Science degree in theology, both from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Clare Fitzgibbon, and three brothers, James, Lawrence and John.

She is survived by a sister, Catherine MacDevitt of Great Neck, NY; and the following nieces and nephews: Mary Catherine Gerrity and Sheila Hill, both of Philadelphia, PA, Lawrence FitzGibbon and Mary Clare FitzGibbon, both of Latham, NY, Agnes Murdock of Wilmett, IL, John MacDevitt of Marquette, MI, and Lawrence MacDevitt of Essex, NY.

The funeral will be Friday, July 16 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Thursday between 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Marian Convent.
