Sister M. Marcelia Brennan, IHM
January 23, 1912 – July 26, 1989

Sister M. Marcelia Brennan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died on Wednesday, July 26, 1989, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA, after an illness.
She was born on January 23, 1912 in Syracuse, NY, and given the name Ruth. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Catherine Perkins Brennan. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1931, received the religious habit on April 21, 1932, and made profession of her vows on April 24, 1934.
A teacher at the intermediate and junior high level, Sister Marcelia served on the faculty at the following schools: Our Lady of Peace School in Clark’s Green, PA; Epiphany School in Sayre, PA; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School in Asbury Park, NJ; and Most Holy Rosary School in Syracuse, NY. She also served on the faculty at IHM schools located in Maryland.
She was preceded in death by eight brothers, Michael, Emmett Augusta, Harold John, Thomas Arthur, Russell, Lyman, Marshall Matthew and Donald J., and a sister, Agnes.
She is surived by two sisters, Dorothy A. Foran and Marie C. Honsell, both of Syracuse, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday, July 31 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent Chapel, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Sunday afternoon or evening.
