Sister M. Hilarion Doyle, IHM

Sister M. Hilarion Doyle, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, November 3, 1915, at St. Agnes Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.
She was born on May 21, 1850 in Honesdale, PA, and given the name Bridget. She was the daughter of the late Christopher and Mary Fagan Doyle. She entered the IHM Congregation on January 29, 1879, received the religious habit on May 13, 1879, and made profession of her vows on April 19, 1881.
Sister Hilarion served as a teacher at the following schools: Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA; St. Patrick School in Olyphant, PA; St. Joseph School in Renovo, PA; and St. Cecilia Academy in Scranton, PA.
She is survived by a sister, Mary Doyle of Scranton, PA.
The funeral will be Saturday, November 6 at 9:30 a.m. in the chapel at Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary, Scranton, PA. Interment will be at the Marywood College Cemetery, on the grounds of Marywood College in Scranton.
“The following Sisters opened the school: Sister M. Lucy, Superior, Sister M. Ligouri, Sister M. Hilarion, Sister M. Clementine, Sister M. Martha, Sister M. Scholastica, Sister M. Norbert, Sister M. Louise, and Sister M. William. God has blessed Saint Patrick’s in a singular manner. It has prospered from the beginning and has attracted many students from the towns about Olyphant till at present it has an enrollment of over three hundred students, and a high school of the first class according to the Pennsylvania Bureau.”

“On November 3rd, Sister M. Hilarian (sic) Doyle died at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Philadelphia, whither she had gone some months before for treatment. She had given long and faithful service to the community and had edified the Sisters by her spirit of child-like simplicity.”
