Sister M. Genevieve Fitzgerald, IHM

Sister M. Genevieve Fitzgerald, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, March 31, 1979, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
She was born on August 16, 1891 in Susquehanna, PA, and given the name Agnes. She was the daughter of the late Richard Paul and Laura Catherine Hopkins Fitzgerald. She entered the IHM Congregation on October 2, 1913, received the religious habit on December 27, 1913, and made profession of her vows on December 30, 1915.
Sister Genevieve served as a teacher in the following schools: St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Bernard Parochial School in Hastings, PA; Most Holy Rosary School in Syracuse, NY; Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Rosalia Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA; St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton, PA; Our Lady of Perpetual Help Elementary School in Rocky Mount, NC; St. Patrick Elementary School in Oneida, NY; St. Cecilia Elementary School in Exeter, PA; and St. Ambrose Elementary School in Bridgeport, CT.
From 1959 until the time of her death, Sister Genevieve served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert J. and Richard, Jr., and three sisters, Mary Virginia McClelland, Ella Marie Fairchild and Alice Foley.
She is survived by a sister, Anna Mack of Carbondale, PA; nieces and nephews; and several grandnieces and grandnephews, including Sister Joanne Pickard, IHM, who is on the faculty of Sacred Heart High School in Carbondale, PA.
The funeral will be Monday, April 2 at 10:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call Sunday afternoon or evening at the Marian Convent.
