Sister M. Doris Caffrey, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, September 16, 1975 in Mercy Hospital in Scranton, PA.

She was born on March 17, 1915 in Childs, PA, and given the name Catherine. She was the daughter of the late Harry F. and Bridget Collins Caffrey. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1933, received the religious habit on April 24, 1934, and made profession of her vows on April 30, 1936.

Sister Doris served as a teacher in the following schools: St. Alphonsus School in New York City, NY; St. Patrick School in Scranton, PA; St. Ann School in Scranton, PA; Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary School in New York City, NY; St. Joseph School in Williamsport, PA; and Holy Rosary School in Scranton, PA.

From 1970 until the time of her death, Sister Doris served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret and Bridgette Ann, and a brother, Harry, Jr.

She is survived by two brothers, John of Scranton, PA, and Paul of Endicott, NY; four sisters, Theresa Toolan and Henrietta Evans of Childs, PA, Marion Richardson of Carbondale, PA, and Nancy Smedley of Pocono Farms, PA; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Thursday, September 18 at 9:30 a.m. in the Marian Convent Chapel in Scranton, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Wednesday after 2:00 pm.
