Sister M. Domitilla Benson, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, October 15, 1940 at St. Agnes Place in Elmhurst, PA.
She was born on August 17, 1866 in Springfield, MA, and given the name Harriet. She was the daugther of the late Edward and Anna Slavin Benson. She entered the IHM Congregation on March 25, 1892, received the religious habit on November 22, 1892, and made profession of her vows on January 1, 1895.
Sister Domitilla served as a teacher at Holy Rosary School in Scranton, PA; IHM Academy in Couer d’Alene, ID; and St. Joseph Elementary School in Spokane, WA.
Sister also served as superior at Casa Regina in Altoona, PA; St. Patrick’s Orphanage in Scranton, PA; and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.
Sister Domitilla served as a prayer minister at St. Mary’s Convent in Avoca, PA, and St. Agnes Place in Elmhurst, PA.
She is survived by a brother, James of Springfield, MA.
The funeral will be on Thursday, October 17 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Agnes Place, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Agnes Place.
