Sister M. Celeste Gallagher, IHM

July 28, 1896 – January 30, 1949

Sister M. Celeste Gallagher, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, January 30, 1949, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City, NY.

She was born on July 28, 1896 in Archbald, PA, and given the name Anna R. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Catharine McGlynn Gallagher. She entered the IHM Congregation on December 8, 1915, received the religious habit on August 2, 1916, and made profession of her vows on August 5, 1918.

Sister Celeste served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Mary of the Mount Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA; St. Joseph Elementary School in Renovo, PA; St. Mary Elementary School in Patton, PA; St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Basil Elementary School in Dushore, PA; and most recently at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary School in Asbury Park, NJ.

She is survived by a brother, Francis of Philadelphia, PA, and three sisters, Kathleen Agnes Gallagher of New York City, NY, and Beatrice Radle and Mildred Gallagher, both of Scranton, PA.

The funeral will be on Wednesday, February 2 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church in Moscow, PA, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow. Friends may call on Tuesday at St. Agnes Place in Elmhurst, PA.
