Sister M. Caroline Culkin, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, February 13, 1954 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.
She was born on April 7, 1896 in Scranton, PA, and given the name Sarah C. She was the daughter of the late John and Sarah Berry Culkin. She entered the IHM Congregation on March 25, 1915, received the religious habit on July 6, 1915, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1917.
Sister Caroline served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Peter Cathedral Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Mary of Mount Carmel Elementary School in Dunmore, PA; St. Thomas Elementary School in Providence, RI; and Sacred Heart Academy in LaPlata, MD.
She is survived by four sisters, Mary, Nora, Helen and Clare, all of Scranton, PA, two brothers, John of Scranton, PA, and James of Ohio, nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday, February 15 at 10:15 a.m. at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Scranton, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Sunday at Cathedral Convent in Scranton.
