Sister M. Beatrice Brown, IHM

Sister M. Beatrice Brown, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died suddenly on Monday, April 4, 1992, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
She was born on January 31, 1917 in Pittston, PA, and given the name Grace. She was daughter of the late Richard and Mary Ellen Reidy Brown. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1935, received the religious habit on April 30, 1936, and made profession of her vows on May 2, 1938.
Sister Beatrice served as a school math and science teacher at the following schools: St. Basil High School in Dushore, PA; St. Rose High School in Carbondale, PA; St. Leo High School in Ashley, PA; Bishop O’Reilly High School in Kingston, PA; and Notre Dame High School in East Stroudsburg, PA. She also taught at high schools located in Idaho, Maryland and New York.
From 1986 until the time of her death, Sister Beatrice served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education, and Master of Arts degree in education, both from Marywood College. She took classes to further her education at Pace College in New York, the University of Idaho, the University of Seattle, Penn State University and the University of Scranton.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, John (infant), Herbert, George, Joseph, Francis and Harold, and three sisters, Mary R. Brown, Catherine Connors, and a stillborn baby girl.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be on Friday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Thursday afternoon or evening.
