Sister Barbara Brow, IHM, (formerly Sister M. Grata) of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, March 20, 2003 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

Born on August 15, 1913 in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Louis and Marie McKenna Brow. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1934, made temporary profession of her vows on May 3, 1937, and final profession of her vows on August 1, 1940.

Sister Barbara was an artist and served as a art teacher at the following schools: Marywood Seminary in Scranton, PA, from 1935 to 1936; Immaculate Conception Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1942 to 1945; St. Mary-John School in Cresson, PA; All Saints Elementary School in Mastontown, PA; St. Patrick Elementary School in Oneida, NY; Most Holy Rosary School in Syracuse, NY; St. Henry Parish School in Gresham, OR; St. Raphael Elementary School in St. Petersburg, FL; as well as at schools located in Pittsburgh, PA; Brooklyn, and Forest Hills, NY; and Baltimore, MD.

Sister also served as an occupational therapy assistant at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA, from 1986 to 2000

From 2000 until the time of her death, Sister Barbara served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree in education and art from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles F. and Harold, and three sisters, Pauline F., Patricia Karschnick and Carolyn Kalstrom.

She is survived by three sisters, Ann Bors of Euclid, OH, Winifred Powers of Chesterland, OH, and Marie Wilson of East Lake, OH, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Wednesday, March 26 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Tuesday after 2:00 p.m.
