IHM is Panelist at National Convocation

Sister Ruth Harkins was invited to speak at the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc.’s (CLINIC) 21st Annual Convening held at the Westin Convention Center in Pittsburgh on May 29-31. Sister Ruth was a panelist at a workshop entitled “Practical Consequences of the Humanitarian Crisis at the Border.” The workshop was attended by over 75 legal service providers and immigration advocates.

In speaking of the workshop, Sister Ruth stated, “I was invited to discuss the goals, changes, current challenges, and learnings during the six years I have journeyed to El Paso, Texas, and Las Cruces, New Mexico as part of the Border Immersion Service and Justice Trip Mission Experiences at Catholic University.” Panelists shared stories of pregnant women, fathers with young children, and women with children who risked everything, escaping violence, corruption, unemployment and poverty, to come to the United States seeking a better way of life. Despite the many roadblocks being placed in the path of legal service providers and immigration advocates, they provide a ray of hope for immigrants as they passionately “Lay a Foundation of Justice” into the future.
