Sister M. Clement Schermanson, IHM

Sister M. Clement Schermanson, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, July 9, 1978 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She died almost 6 months after her sister, Sister M. Aloysia.

She was born on August 20, 1895 in Coeur d'Alene, ID, and given the name Elsa. She was the daughter of the late Joel and Henrietta Kullberg Schermanson. She entered the IHM Congregation on July 13, 1918, received the religious habit on August 15, 1919, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1921.

Sister Clement taught at the following IHM schools: St. Patrick School in Oneida, NY, from 1921 to 1922; St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Ashville, PA, from 1922 to 1928; Epiphany School in Sayre, PA, from 1929 to 1930; IHM Academy in Coeur d'Alene, ID, from 1930 to 1951; St. Edward Elementary Schools in Twin Falls, ID, from 1952 to 1955; St. Lawrence Academy in Portland, OR, from 1955 to 1959; and St. Henry Elementary School in Gresham, OR, from 1959 to 1971. 

Sister Clement also served as a tutor at St. Joseph School in Danville, PA, from 1971 to 1972; school office secretary at Sacred Heart of Mary School in Jessup, PA, from 1972 to 1976; and support staff member at the IHM Generalate in Scranton, PA, from 1976 to 1977.  

From 1977 until the time of her death, she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She is preceded in death by two brothers, Monsignor Eric and Joseph; and three sisters, Esther, Agnes, and Sister M. Aloysia, IHM.  

She is survived by a sister, Maria of Wallace, ID; and a brother, Henry of Couer d'Alene, ID.

Interment will follow the Mass of Christian burial at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA.
