Sister M. Demetrius Hines, IHM

Sister M. Demetrius Hines, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, December 19, 1966 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on April 11, 1891 in Pittston, Pennsylvania, and given the name Anna R.  She was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Anna Mullen Hines.  She entered the IHM Congregation on March 25, 1918, received the religious habit on August 5, 1918, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1920.

Sister Demetrius served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Ann High School in Scranton, PA, from 1920 to 1921; St. Ephrem High School in Brooklyn, NY, from 1921 to 1930; Marywood Seminary in Scranton, PA, from 1930 to 1933; St. Lawrence Academy in Portland, OR, from 1933 to 1935; Altoona Catholic High School in Altoona, PA, from 1935 to 1938; Most Holy Rosary High School in Syracuse, NY, from 1938 to 1948; St. John the Evangelist High School in Scranton, PA, from 1948 to 1949; St. Rosalia High School in Pittsburgh, PA,  from 1949 to 1952; St. Rose High School in Carbondale, PA, from 1952 to 1959; and St. Mary School in Manhasset, NY.

She is preceded in death by three brothers, Martin McHale, Thomas C. Hines, and W. Russell Hines, and three sisters, Sister M. Visitation, IHM, Margaret Walsh, and Mary.

She is survived by a sister, Nona Theresa Lally, nieces and nephews.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
