Sister M. Antonia Pritchard, IHM

Sister M. Antonia Pritchard, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, February 3, 1897 in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on May 22, 1844 in Pleasant Mount, Pennsylvania, and given the name Ellen.  She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Julia Dolan Pritchard.  She entered the IHM Congregation on October 26, 1874, received the religious habit from Bishop O'Hara on February 9, 1875 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and made profession of her vows on February 13, 1877 at St. Rose's Convent in Carbondale, Pennsylvania.

Sister Antonia served in child care for resident children at St. Patrick's Orphan Asylum in Scranton, PA, from May of 1877 to January of 1881, and at St. Joseph's Foundling Home in Scranton, PA, from November 14, 1895 until the time of her death.

Sister Antonia served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Cecilia Academy in Scranton, PA, from February of 1881 to July of 1882; St. Basil Academy in Dushore, PA, from September 1882 to December of 1895; and St. Rose Academy in Carbondale, PA, from January of 1895 to November of 1895.

She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Agnes (Henry) McGarry of High Lake, Wayne County, PA; and Mrs. John McDermott of Omaha, NE, five brothers, William, Thomas and Michael all of Greeley County, NE; Joseph of Omaha, NE, and John of Rock Lake, Wayne County, PA; and nieces and nepehws.

Interment is at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Carbondale, Pennsylvania.
